How to reach

  • By Air:Port blair is the Nearest airport to Mount Harriet National Park. Port Blair is connected to Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai Airport,ships as well.
  • By Rail:Andaman archipelago dost not have railway station.Chennai Railway Station in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu is the nearest railway station,which is 1,370 away from the Island.
  • By Road:One can reach Mount Harriet National Park by road via Ferrargunj.It well connected to all Major Cities and Places.there are government and private vehicles are avilable to reach Mount Harriet National Park.
  • It is better to visit this place in day time and return back in the evening.
  • From Chatham wharf to Bamboo flat Ferry or taxi service is available and take some other vehicle to reach Mount Harriet.
  • Open timings:7AM to 5 PM.
  • It take 15 to 20 minutes by boat from Port Blair to Bamboo flat and another 15 to 20 minutes by road from Bamboo flat to Mount Harriet.

About Mount Harriet

Mount Harriet ia the one of the highest and accessible peak and amazing array of natural beauty in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago next to Saddle Peak and this named as Harriet Tytler by the second wife of Robert Christopher Tytler, naturalist and photographer in Andaman at port blair from April 1862 to February 1864.Andaman has arround nine national park,among all these Mount Harriet is the most beautiful.Which is located in Ferargunj tehsil at Port Blair,It take arround one hour to reach there.From port blair,Mount Harriet is 55km by road and 15 km by ferry.Mount Harriet's attracts visitors by its natural charm,greenery and beauty.One can also see different kinds of birds.The view of the Port Blair city,Ross island and Havelock island can be seen from top of the peak.For refreshment and to take rest,forest guest house is available for tousist.Tourit can also visit Madhuban from Mount Harriet thorth forest.It is arround 16kms from Mount Harriet to Madhuban.Mount Harriet ,north of Port Blair and Ross island is the natural gateway to the Haddo and Chatham Wharf and Phoenix Bay Jetty.This park is arround 46.62kms and it covers additional area of 1,700 hectares.It includes adjoining mountain ranges and the marine ecosystem on the eastern coast.This is reserve for the wildlife and biodiversity.The activities like developmental, forestry, poaching, hunting and grazing on cultivation are not allowed.This place is shown on the reverse side of Rupee 20 note in India.Mount Harriet is covered with the dense evergreen and semi evergreen forests.The view of sunrise looks beautiful , it has watch towers, children’s park, deer park, guest house tourist sheds and it is the perfect place to see the natural beauty.To give an enjoyment to tourists an Orchidarium and a butterfly house are built here.Mount Harriet National Park is about 30 km from Port Blair next to Saddle Peak (732m)and Mount Thullier in Nicobar(568m).The mountains are aligned in a north-south direction and In east-west direction spurs are aligned.Mount Harriet is nice place to spend time with your loved ones and family .It will the most memorable time and this place is perfect place for trekking.One can also enjoy Madhuban Beach,to reach Madhuban Beach need to trek from Mount Harriet.There is another option to reach Madhuban Beach foe those who not able to trek,need to take care and drive up the forest area up to the Mount Harriet.

January to March is the best time to visit Mount Harriet National Park which is open throughout the year.

Where to stay?

In forest guesthouse the accommodation facilities are provided to stay.Foreigners need to take permission from the park authorities.Middle Andaman Island, South Andaman Island, Neil Island, Little Andaman Island, Long Island, Havelock Island, Baratang, Diglipur, North Passage and the Mahatma Gandhi National Marine Park are the some places to stay at Andaman and Nicobar islands.One can also can stay whole night but need to pay for forest guesthouse for convenience and relaxation.

    Forest are categorized into 3 types are tropical evergreen, hilltop tropical evergreen and littoral. It has arround 134 plant and tree species and 74 native and 51 introduced species.Some of the plant species are listed below:

  • King Cobra,Andaman Cobra,two nesting marine turtles-green sea and Olive Ridley are included.
  • This park includes many birds like Andaman wood pigeon, Andaman cuckoo dove, Andaman scoops-owls, Andaman woodpecker, Andaman drongo, Andaman treepie, Andaman coucal ,White headed starling and mammals like Andaman Wild Pig, Andaman Masked Palm Civet, Andaman Rat, Flying Fox, Asian Elephant, Chital.
  • aquatic fauna like eels, catfish, gobies, sleepers and snakeheads. Andaman Bull Frog, Andaman Paddy field Frogs are present here.
  • land molluscs includes 355 species,70% are insects.silkmoth genus Samia is well know insect.Samia fulva and Heteropanax fragrans are additional insects.
